An increase in the proportion of women in leadership positions is urgently needed not only for the economic success of companies.

With the campaign “Companies with women at the top!” the Senate Department for Labour, Integration and Women and the Berlin Chamber of Commerce have created a combined network of Berlin-based companies to improve the career opportunities for women in working life, which – like the SWOPS project – addresses change in the corporate culture.

Fair working conditions and equality of chances are essential to recruit qualified and committed personnel.

The tools developed by the SWOPS project can contribute to realize fair working conditions, especially in small and medium enterprises.

In the pilot project “Quality with women” (QMF) a mix of skills in the methodology of quality management and individual coaching for many participants has enabled new areas of responsibility at work.

Obviously, open vacancies and the willingness of decision makers were prerequisites to promote the QMF graduates.

Good laws alone cannot increase the proportion of women in leadership positions. SWOPS identifies the factors that hinder decision makers from opening up equal opportunities to men and women.

Such tools are needed in order to accompany changes in the companies and to create a sustainable economy.

Equal opportunities for women and men are very important to us. However, our staff often have more traditional role models than the corporate management.

The SWOPS project was progressing very well due to the good chemistry between all participants. Collaboration was fun and everyone was able to value the new benefits for his or her everyday work. We therefore plan a continuation of SWOPS in spring 2016.
